The theater of the city swiftly unfolds before you, uniquely framed through the lens of your eyes. As you absorb the production around you, you generate stories, emotions and memories that contribute compoundingly to your understanding of the next moment’s events. My work explores this construction of narrative, the cutting, pasting and texturing of context and the relationship we have with objects, space and people. It seeks to access empathy and clarity through the use of figurative photography and emotionally charged imagery, yet creates space for interpretation through the use of abstract painting.

Having studied and practiced architecture for over a decade, my process finds inspiration in the collaging and narrative building techniques of architectural visualization. This process, however, takes a purposeful departure from the realism of rendering and introduces abstract context with images of people and objects collected from magazines, periodicals, and photojournalism books. The use of texture, layering and transparency provides a captivating formal landscape for characters and objects to occupy and connect with both each other and the viewer. The pieces often examine the sense of self, introspection, reminiscence and shared moments of emotional intensity through the use of centralized figures and third person. It seeks to construct a framework on which to create or discover meaning—a language to give thought to one’s emotions, memories and self.
